Faro, Olhao, Olhao, Portugal Property ID: 39308441

Property description

Lovely Traditional 4 Bedroom Villa located in the countryside near Olhao, boasting 360 degree country and sea views.

A charming wooden gate enters the plot with a good size driveway at the front, that also leads all the way down one side of the villa, to the basement.

An elegant entrance room, featuring the original stonework, leads to a long corridor. The hallway has all 4 bedrooms, plus the guest bathroom along either side. The bedrooms are all good size, with some including air-con, en-suite bathrooms, and built-in wardrobes. The master suite is the biggest, with a walk-in wardrobe.

The large living area is at the end of the hallway and has a seperate dining area off it, with the fully fitted and equipped L-shaped kitchen adjacent. Two sets of french windows access the large shaded terrace area from the lounge. Steps then lead down to the large, north facing, terraced swimming pool area. The pool is cleverly positioned to get sun all day and for complete tranquility.

The one level villa boasts a roof top terrace that encompasses the entire first floor, with superb countryside views all around and distant sea vistas. The terrace includes a shaded area with built-in barbeque, bread oven and a sink area.

Below the villa is a large garage and storage area that is currently used as a second lounge / games room. The large plot has irrigated garden areas all around, at the front, sides and beyond the pool area.

The property also has potential to be extended. Beneath the swimming pool there is a large space that could be converted into an annex / apartment. Accessed easily from the driveway, facing away and on a lower level to the main villa -  it would almost be it's own building with a private garden.

About Olhao

The traditional Portuguese town of Olhâ;o is just a short hop east from Faro, the capital city of the Algarve.

Olhâ;o is actually the biggest fishing port in the Algarve and became a town of note in the 19th century, until this time it was just a small fishing village with a handful of people living in huts made from wood, straw & reeds. The fortress of Sâ;o Lourenco was built around 1679 to protect the village from pirates.

Olhâ;o is surrounded by ‘ilhas’, sand spit island beaches, which protect the marshy lagoon, Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa, an environmental and conservation area for birds and marine life. The two main Olhâ;o beaches are Ilha da Culatra ('Island of Culatra') and Ilha da Armona ('Island of Armona') and they are served all year with regular ferry crossings from Olhâ;o’s jetty, near to the municipal gardens. Ilha da Culatra is the bigger of the two islands and has permanent year round residents as well as summer visitors. The western end of Ilha da Culatra ,with the lighthouse, is known as Ilha do Farol. The next ilha just to the west of Farol is Ilha Deserta, a beautiful island with nothing more than a stretch of beautiful soft sand backed by vegetation and a single restaurant.

While parts of Olhâ;o are dedicated to industry, there is also a lovely long paved promenade running along the waterfront which is ideal for a nice long walk and you can stop and rest in the cool shade of the gardens.

Olhâ;o has two market buildings, adjacent to one another. One dedicated to the selling of fish and sea food delivered straight from the port. The town is famous for it’s fresh fish & sea food and is host to the annual seafood festival which takes place every summer in August.  There are many little restaurants and cafes serving a wonderful selection of fresh fish and sea food it hardly seems worthwhile to have to cook it yourself! The second market building is where you can find an amazing selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.

There are two churches in Olhâ;o which are worth visiting.  The first is the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary which was built with the help of the fishermen of the town and was the first stone building in Olhâ;o.  It was built in 1698 and has a baroque facade.  The other church, the original church of the fishing village, is the Chapel of Our Lady of Solidarity.  This church dates from the 17th century, it is just delightful to sit along the marina and have a coffee or a drink and watch the world go by.
