First look inside lauren bacall's home
Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall tragically passed away last year, leaving behind an apartment in New York, where she lived for over half a century. Home to the movie star for 53 years, Bacall's apartment boasted three bedrooms and 3.5 baths to accommodate its glamorous occupant.
The home was placed on the market soon after, drawing attention its many impressive features, from the five fireplaces to the six winds overlooking Central Park (complete with Juliet balcony). Bacall originally bought the place in 1961 for around $30,000 to $40,000, although it is now valued at a much starrier $9m. The asking price? $26 million.
The listing with Warburg Realty details the luxurious nature of the property - especially, notes Curbed, its abundance of mahogany:
"One enters the residence through a private mahogany vestibule with towering doors into an elegant and exceptionally large 18 foot entry Foyer, with its own highly coveted original fireplace, unique to the Dakota only. To the right is a seemingly endless 70 foot gallery connecting the major public rooms including the Library, Great Room, and Formal Dining Room.
"The warm, inviting Library includes original pocket doors, fireplace, and overlooks Central Park from a floor to ceiling window with a Juliet balcony, offering a small treasure from which to enjoy the exceptional park views. The 29 foot wide Great Room offers a sprawling entertaining space with two enormous park facing windows, mantled fireplace, mahogany doors connecting the Library, and another set of mahogany double doors leading to the Gallery."
While the listing has everything from mahogany to a floorplan, though, the photos only capture the place after it has been prepared for auction. Bacall's belongings, meanwhile, will be up for auction at Bonham's on 31st March and 1st April, including her furniture and collectibles. The catalogue now includes photos of the items on display in the home, revealing what the cinema legend's home looked like for those 50 years.
