Celebrity homes: richard gere puts house up for sale

The Hollywood actor, best known for his role in Pretty Woman opposite Julia Roberts, caused more than a few women to swoon this week as he put the estate on the market (the two may not be connected).

Even in his mature years, Gere’s career continues to flourish, from the immature and rude Movie 43 to the financial thriller Arbitrage, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. The 63 year old actor’s home is equally impressive: spanning 12,000 square feet, the mansion boasts 12 bedrooms and 12 baths, not to mention modern furnishings and a gourmet kitchen. The property was built in 1902 and has since renovated extensively to include all of those bathrooms.

But the outside is where things get really extravagant: the six-acre estate boasts 300 feet of waterfront property, offering panoramic views from Long Island with a dock that lets you park a boat of your choice ready to sail out onto open water.

The estate also includes two additional guesthouses, as well as an outdoor fireplace pavilion, large patio, a swimming pool.

Sotheby’s International Realty are selling the house. The listing describes it as “impeccable and very private” and “a unique property that can never be replicated”.

Zillow, on other hand, opted to put like this: “It has a charm reminiscent of Gere’s famous character in “Pretty Woman” — calm but persistent.”

The best thing about the house, though, is its name: Strongheart Manor.

How much does it cost to live like Richard Gere? He has an asking price of $65 million.

Not even the name Strongheart Mansion is worth that.
