A tin of black paint, a pile of gravel and a couple of wooden Bars: that is how Australian artist Ian Strange laughs the day away in the merry old land of Oz.
Strange has brought the magic of the Wizard of Oz to Oz itself for the 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art with a striking sculpture: a replica of his own childhood home, given the Dorothy treatment.
The building, which was erected outside the Art Gallery of South Australia, is an all-black piece titled Landed, which alludes to the iconic image of the classic film, while simultaneously subverting the trappings of suburban life.
The Biennial catalogue - quoted by Curbed - describes Strange's collected work on show at the festival as like "episodes of Neighbours directed by David Lynch and scripted by Stephen King with advice from Sigmund Freud". Maybe not such a merry old land of Oz after all...
