Dubai announces €125m museum of the future
Dubai has announced plans to build a new Museum of the Future. The €125 million development will be dedicated to innovative design and technology, both showcasing cutting-edge ideas in a permanent exhibition and driving research in its own labs.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister of the UAE, tweeted that it will offer advanced courses and specialized workshops, making it "a destination for the best and brightest inventors and entrepreneurs". He added that is an "integrated environment empowering creative minds to test, fund and market ideas for futuristic prototypes & services".
The oval-shaped building will be built around a holographic billboard, with steel panels on the outside, instribed with Arabic poetry, reports Dezeen. It will be located by the Emirates Towers on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road. a short drive from the iconic Burj Khalifa.
The building is set for completion in 2017, in time for Dubai's hosting of the 2020 World Expo - the first to be held in the Middle East. Indeed, the emirate is seeing investment step up in advance of the event, as development activity rises and confidence in the Dubai housing market builds.
