Overseas property news - Turkey’s new hot ‘phenomenon’

Turkey’s new hot ‘phenomenon’

Turkey is apparently benefiting from an exciting new tourism trend...

According to Robert Nixon, Operations Director UK for Nirvana International ‘Home Owner Tourism’  (HOT) is a new phenomenon’ that is taking Turkey by storm: “We were aware of the rapid growth in people buying a second home in this beautiful, unspoilt country, but even we were surprised at just how many ‘tourists’ own properties, particularly in Antalya one of the country’s most beautiful coastal resorts”.

Figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) show that of all the foreign tourists who visited Turkey on holiday in the first quarter of the year, 14% stayed in their own houses, 40% chose an hotel or similar whilst another 32.4% stayed with friends or relatives.

The figures also show that 9.8% of tourists stayed in rented houses, which is positive proof of good buy to rent potential. Additional figures by the General Directorate of Title Deeds show that resort towns like Antalya and Mugla were most favoured by foreign buyers, the largest share belonging to the British, Germans and Greeks.

High expectations

Some 73,000 foreigners own property in the country encompassing 38.42 million square metres. The beautiful resort town of Antalya tops the list with 26,031 people owning 3.81 million square metres.

Mr Dixon Added: “Turkey is a country on the move. It has high expectations and a Government ready and willing to embrace foreign visitors and owners. Over 20% of foreign tourists in the first three months of the year were professionals, of which over 18% were business owners, lawmakers and top level managers; all of which points to a country appealing to a wide range of visitors.

“Home Owner Tourism was bound to catch on because the country has so much to offer and investors can buy at amazing prices compared to other countries in the world. Also Turkey is outside the Euro Zone and not affected by the strong Euro rate”.
