Photo of the week: the making of godzilla's tokyo
Directed by Ishiro Honda, the 1954 monster movie was notable not just for creating a kaiju legacy that is still going today with Gareth Edwards' US remake, but for its stunning visual effects. Designed by Eiji Tsuburaya, the black and white movie used model work rather than CGI to capture the devastation destruction.
Here, then, as the new Godzilla enters UK cinemas, is a look back at the detailed mini-city made by Tsuburaya's artists: an architectural feat that brought an entire metropolis to life, before sending it all tumbling back down again.
