China constructs 2.86 million affordable homes

China has started construction on 2.86 million affordable housing units this year, according to new figures from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

This makes up 40 per cent of the 7 million units planned for the whole year, Feng Jun, chief economic manager, told China Daily.

Work had been finished on 1.25 million units at the end of April, with 360 billion yuan invested in the scheme in the first four months of 2014.
