London and Paris remain the best cities in Europe for investment, according to JLL, with Istanbul coming in third place.

The latest European Regional Economic Growth Index (E-REGI) identifies European regions with the best economic prospects for investors, confirming that the continent is driven by large, dynamic urban centres. Inded, London and Paris are first and second, with Istanbul ranking third for the second year in a row.

"The size and structural strengths of these World Cities have consistently made them the most likely contenders to top the E-REGI index. Over the sixteen year history of the index, London and Paris have respectively been twelve and eleven times in the Top 3," explains JLL.

The report attributes their consistency to their "deep and transparent real estate investment markets". There are another 34 cities classed as consistent by JLL's research, including cities such as Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Amsterdam.

Affluent cities, which are driven by the wealthy sector of their markets, include 13 cities, largely located in the Nordics, such as Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria.

JLL also highlights frequent movers within the index, from cyclical markets - where timing is crucial - to structural markets - where long-term commitment is needed to reap rewards.

Istanbul is classed as we one of the "aspiring" markets, thanks to rising attention, strong economic growth and an increasingly powerful consumer base.
