Yours for $15m - the white house (no, not that one)

In under a month, voters in Iowa will gather to nominate their candidates for the 2016 US presidential election. For those who can't wait, though, the White House is already up for sale. The only catch? It isn't the one you're thinking of...

America loves the White House. It votes for who will live in it. It makes movies about it - in fact, in 2013, there were two: White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen. And, in a time-honoured tradition that reaches across the country, it builds replicas of it.

There are at least seven different knock-offs of 1 Pennsylvania Avenue around the USA, but this White House is easily the biggest. Spanning a whopping 16,000 square feet, the property sits in 3.3 acres of land even more extravagant than Donald Trump's ideas on immigration.

The white limestone outside and semicircular colonnade immediately mark out the mansion in Dallas, Texas, as a White House impersonator, but the owners were clearly in two minds about their design: you won't find an Oval Office replica here, but you will find a bathroom with marble flooring sporting a pattern also found in Versailles.

That French feel extends throughout the ostentatious estate, which boasts all the usual features of a tennis court, swimming pool and spa, but also the less obvious features such as double walnut doors, a staircase modelled after one found in a Paris museum and a living room with an 18th century Louis XV marble fireplace. Indeed, the whole interior was reworked years ago to include antique fireplaces from France, with the property also including an antique brick wine cellar and a breakfast room featuring Louis XIV-style Italian chandeliers.

On top of all of that, the first level boasts a full catering kitchen and laundry area, an office with separate security system for staff - in case you're playing president for the day - and an attached six-car garage, which has two limo-length spaces.

There is even a cinema on the second floor, accessible from an elevator as well as the Parisian staircase, so that you can watch Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down back-to-back to your heart's content.

The property listing (with Briggs Freeman) uses the word "elegant" no fewer than three times, describing the mansion as "liveable" and "among the most noted homes in Dallas". You betcha.

The home was listed for sale way back in July 2014 for $19.5 million, but has now returned to the market with a lower asking price of $15 million. Would it get your vote?
