Obidos: the ‘jewel in portugal’s crown’

Obidos on Portugal’s ‘Silver Coast’ is attracting investor attention…

According to silver-Coast-properties.com, the "jewel in the crown" of Silver Coast towns is Obidos. The website explained: "It looks and feels medieval with its many churches, built over many hundreds of years. The cobbled streets are lined with whitewashed houses with ochre or blue window and door frames.

"During the year Obidos is the setting for numerous events, including classic and popular music concerts, the Annual Medieval Fair and the Chocolate Festival."

As well as its unspoilt beaches - in particular those near Baleal - the Silver Coast is fast becoming known for its golfing resorts. The Lisbon Golf Coast recently picked up the IAGTO Golf Destination of the Year 2007 award and there are four other courses in the region.

Recently, Channel 4's A Place in the Sun programme ranked Portugal as the third best place to make money for property investors. It noted: "The Silver Coast is still relatively undiscovered but has cheap flights to the UK and a four-bed habitable period house will only set you back around £90,000."

The report continued by pointing out: "At Praia D'El Rey, an environmentally conscious, low-rise development, built with less than half the density of many complexes on the Algarve, prices start from £100,000. This is fantastic, considering prices on the Silver Coast have risen by around 20 per cent in the last 12 months”.
