China's new wave of us construction
China is beginning a new wave of construction in the US. The latest to ride the wave is Landsea, which has invested $1 billion in three developments, including projects in Weekhawken, New Jersey and California. The deal follows similar moves from state-owned Greenland Holdings, Chinese subsidiary firm Starryland.
While the funds are coming from overseas, though, some developments - such as Landsea's New Jersey property - will be built with American materials from Lennar Homes.
John Ho, managing director of Landsea’s US division, tells OPP Connect: "Our U.S. operation will function in every aspect like a U.S. home builder. Our people are all local. The only thing that makes us different is that our equity and background is Chinese."
