Brits eye luscious limousin
Limousin
in France could be the perfect place to find a bargain country cottage...
According to French property portal VEF, Brits may well
want to investigate Limousin as the perfect place to find the ideal chateau or
country cottage.
The website noted that buyers of property in this western region of France
would benefit from close proximity to the cities of Limoges, Brive and
Perigueux.
Furthermore, the area also has good links to the rest of France and
Europe, while Brits can fly into the region via airports in Limoges, Bordeaux
or Begerac.
In terms of the surrounding countryside, VEF pointed to the rolling hills of
Limousin's landscape, as well as its links to medieval history in the form of
churches and chateaux that punctuate the Gallic scenery. The region is also
known for its warm climate - long summers and crisp winters.
Sense of community
And VEF stated that there are certain aspects of the region that will appeal
particularly to the British, commenting that there is "a strong and
enduring sense of community and value, many say the Limousin people and
lifestyle is like England used to be 50 years ago".
This does indeed sound very appealing, and such descriptions are further
enhanced by comments from Patrick Joseph, founder and director of
my-french-house.com. He has noted the popularity of France with expats and
investors in the current environment.
"France is definitely one of the most popular places just now," he
stated, adding: "It's the lifestyle, it's the whole package with France.
People don't just want a place in the sun. It's France they want and nowhere
else."
Safe investment
He encouraged would-be investors to buy bricks and mortar rather than keep money
in the bank, particularly following yesterday's news from the Bank of England
that the interest rate has dropped further.
"It is no good having money in the bank right now with one per cent
interest, so buying a property in France is a safe investment and an investment
that you can enjoy as well," he stated, adding that property prices are
holding up "nice and steady" at the moment.
