The words "fake Afghanistan war zone" may not sound like a smart investment, but for film fans, this cluster of dilipidated buildings could be a dream new home. The ranch is located in the Santa Clarita Valley, an area that has become known in the industry as Hollywood North. Indeed, the Blue Cloud Movie Ramch is one of several similar facilities in the vicinity, which range from mock Spanish towns and Wild West outposts to even Virginia, USA.

This ranch in particular, owned by Rene Veluzat (whose family owns three ranches in total) specialises in military backdrops. Indeed, according to the LA Times, the war-torn backdrop is so realistic that the military even uses it for training purposes.

The ranch includes a "full-scale army camp", as well as 50 military vehicles, including Humvees, tanks and helicopters.

The lot is divided into such tastefully named areas as "Foreign Courtyard", "The Cave", "Helicopter Crash" and "Third World Country", notes Curbed - just the thing for an eager buyer to impress their parents with when they show them round their new pad.

For wealthy film buffs, though, the chance to own a piece of cinema history could hold some appeal. Investors, on the other hand, may be interested to hear that Rene, a former stuntman who has owned the ranch since 2000, says he made almost $1 million in one year from renting it out for productions ranging from Iron Man to TV show Chuck.

Either way, one thing is certain: your home movies would never seem the same again.
