Overseas property news - Spanish rents up in barcelona and madrid

Spanish rents up in barcelona and madrid

Rents are rising in Barcelona and Madrid, according to new figures from Fotocasa. The two cities have enjoyed more of a recovery than most in the wake of the recession, with the country's rebounding econony helping to bolster demand from investors, which, in turn, has fuelled price rises for both sales and rentals.

Rents rose year-on-year in all regions of Spain in November 2015, according to the portal's report, but Madrid and Barcelona are at the head of the pack: rents rose 4.67 per cent in the former and 6.19 per cent in the latter over the 12 months to the end of November. Barcelona now boasts the highest monthly rental rate in the country of €10.7 per square metre.

"After falling by 30% during the crisis, rents are now returning to positive territory, which we haven’t seen in eight years," says Beatriz Toribio, head of research at Fotocasa.
