Sarah jessica parker goes back to sex and the city home
66 Perry Stret in the West Village became an icon as soon as Sex and the City hit the small screen. In the years since the show ended, fans of the series have repeated paused to take photos of the townhouse - prompting the real life owners to place a metal chain across the stairs, including a sign reading "Do NOT go on staircase please".
Sarah Jessica Parker, though, ignored the sign this month, when she returned to her old address to photograph her new shoe collection for Nordstrom.
“It was take your @sjpcollection shoes to work day. #longdayforCarrie #whewwwwthosesteps #runninginheels #taxi!” she posted on Instagram, while posing in the street.
It was the final straw for the owners, who gave permission for the facade to be used in the TV show.
"The owners are up in arms as they deal with relentless tourists, and SJP has ignored their requests for an explanation on how she could endorse the shoot, even though ‘no trespassing’ signs are posted. SJP used their house during the years of filming, and now won’t acknowledge that she and her company used the steps and facade, this time without permission, to promote her shoe line," a source told New York Post's Page Six.
"The situation with ‘SATC’ visitors is still very intense," added Gerald Banu, President of the Perry Street Association. "People who live here get upset that the sidewalks are constantly jammed."
The end result is an interesting case that highlights the grey areas of ownership and perceived ownership in the age of celebrity and TV - or a story about someone who took a photo of their shoes.
