Chinese investors undeterred by missing malaysian plane
While some experts feared that the mystery of the missing Malaysian plane MH370 may have deterred some Chinese investors, agents are reporting that it has no impact whatsoever.
Indeed, residential property sales have cooled in recent months: in Johor, sales dipped 6.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the previous three months, but the slowdown in sales has been attributed to economic factors rather than the confusion and uncertainty surrounding the airplane.
Velda Kwok, Assistant Business Development and Research Manager for CoAssets.com, South East Asia’s first real estate crowdfunding platform, tells OPP Connect that the MH370 incident "has impacted on the country’s reputation and may cause some Chinese to avoid visiting or investing", but overall is not a significant factor in the market's performance.
“In terms of buying sentiments among the Chinese, I think it is more likely to be affected by the economic developments in China than the MH370 incident," Kwok adds, "as property investor is likely to focus more on factors that will have a greater impact on their investment return such as economic developments, fundamentals of the area and the prices of property."
