Celebrity property news: robin williams' napa valley home sells for almost half-price
Robin Williams' Napa Valley home has finally sold - at a dramatic discount.
The 639-acre property, located in the Mayacamas Mountains, was built for the comedian back in 2003. Titled "Villa Sorriso" (Villa of Smiles), the home was suitably larger than life, with stunning features such as a pool room and private cinema.
Alongside the five bedrooms and eight baths are a library, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a pond, a 65-foot infinity pool, a tennis court, a seven-stall horse stable and an olive orchard. There is even a viewing tower to look across the land.
Despite the glamorous style and famous owner, though, the home struggled to sell in 2012, when it was listed with an asking price of $35 million. The property was relisted in 2014 for $29.9 million, but also failed to find a buyer.
In August 2014, Williams tragically passed away. In the wake of his death, the home was listed once more for sale at a lower asking price of $22.9 million.
Now, the home has finally found a new buyer. The Wall Street Journal reports that the property has been purchased by French winemakers from Chateau Pontet-Canet, who plan to make wine from the estate's 18.4 acres of vinyeards, which include Cabernet Sauvignon, Melot and Cabernet Franc varieties of grape.
The home was marketed by Coldwell Banker Previews International, fetching an ultimate price of $18.1 million - almost half the price it originally asked for.
