Samuel Eto'o has purchased a new Italian villa - but rumours say that it is haunted by none other than Tutankhamun. The former Chelsea forward netted the property for a striking £18.5 million.

The luxury home certainly appears to be a good score: located in Portofino, near Genoa, Villa Altachiara has everything a footballing star could wish for, from a swimming pool and 40 rooms to 30,000 square metres of land. Like all good celebrity homes, it also comes with a colourful history. Unlike all good celebrity homes, though, that colourful history happens to include an ancient Egyptian curse.

The home was once owned by Lord Carnarvon, who was working with archaelogist Howard Carter when Tutankhamun's tomb was first discovered in 1923. Following that discovery, eight of the 58 people who were present died within 12 years. Carnavon, meanwhile, passed away from what The Daily Mail describe as a "bizarre" death when he was shaving. His nephew also fell down the stairs in the cliff-top home and died, whiler former Gucci model Countess Francesca Agusta vanished from the property in 2001.
