Introducing the 500-foot glass windmill you can live in
Living in windmills has been a tradition that dates all the way back to old-timey Amsterdam and BBC's Jonathan Creek, but now, the Dutch have taken the concept and given it a modern makeover with a new 500-foot project.
The "Windwheel" in Rotterdam would be a bladeless windmill made of steel and glass, with 300,000 square metres of real estate encasing it, containing apartments, a hotel and even a panorama restaurant.
"The central area of the building would be occupied by a power generator that harnesses the wind to produce electricity," explains PopSci.com. "Unlike other wind power systems, the system, EWICON, uses no moving parts, relying on the wind to push charged particles in particular directions to generate energy."
The circular skyscraper will also boast such sustainable features as water recycling, a small plant to turn waste into biofuel and solar panels along the facade.
