Australian expats increasingly keen on south asia
Australian expats are increasingly keen on South East Asia, according to a new book.
Sell-up, Pack-up and Take Off (by Colleen Ryan and Stephen Wyatt) says that living costs in South East Asia are up to 80 per cent lower than Down Under, which makes retiring there far more affordable than traditional European destinations.
With the number of Australians over the age of 65 projected to reach 8 million in the next 35 years, more and more are retiring to places such as Malaysia and Thailand.
"What’s driving the people to South East Asia is that they can’t live really well in Australia once they are retired, whereas they can live very, very well in South East Asia," writes Ryan.
