Alan cumming snaps up new york townhouse

The Tony Award-winning star, who shot to worldwide fame with his role as Nightcrawler in X-Men 2, purchased the four-storey home with his spouse, commercial illustrator Grant Shaffer.

The partners married in the UK six years ago before having another ceremony in Manhattan in 2013, reports the New York Post. Now, they have taken their marriage to the next level: buying a huge home in the world's most famous city.

The property is 20 feet wide and boasts seven bedrooms, four baths and a "forest-like2 garden, not to mention a roof deck, balcony and - of course - a French country chef's kitchen. if the four storeys aren't enough, though, they have permission from city authorities to add another two more floors.

Cumming joins other celebrities in the neighbourhood, such as David Schwimmer, who caused some controversy when he knocked down his equally old townhouse to build a modern property in its place. Residents will no doubt be hoping that Alan is more restrained with any DIY urges.
