California dreaming? High-speed rail plans in jeopardy
A new high-speed rail may have been reduced to California dreaming, after one judge scrapped financial plans for the project. America’s first bullet train would have linked San Francisco and Los Angeles, but Judge Michael Kenny has placed the ambitious development in limbo, rejecting a request from the California High-Speed Rail Authority to sell $8 billion of bonds.
The move combined with a separate lawsuit from Kenny, which ordered the authority to rethink its $68 billion funding plan, a process that could take up to several years. The Judge had previously warned the group for proposing a funding plan that went against the law, citing a lack of funds that were “more than merely theoretically possible”.
