Bahamas crime rate puts off buyers

The number of violent crimes in locations frequented by American tourists in the Bahamas significantly increased in 2013, according new figures from the US Department of State.

The annual Crime and Safety report shows there has been a slight reduction in 2013 in some crime categories, but that violent crime remains above the 2012 level, a fact which may be deterring property buyers.

Indeed, one French/Canadian couple told The Tribune that they were "surprised" when they read there were"more than 100 murders the past three years" in Nassau.

"It’s a small city when I compare to Edmonton or Paris which has a bigger population. I think it’s really high for a place so small."
