The PGA Open de España hits its last round of the tournament yesterday at Spain's Catalunya Resort, the first time the event has been held in the country since 2009.

Once again frequenting Iberian shores bringing in the crowds and driving up accommodation demand, the event highlights not only the popularity of the sport in Spain, but that the love of the game doesn't seem to be waning, no matter how tightly pockets may be squeezed.
 
"The importance of golf tourism to Spain  and the wider European economy is abundantly clear and despite being hit by the recession over the last few years, it's certainly making a comeback hand in hand with the property market," comments Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director for leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España.
 
Indeed, a whopping 56 million people worldwide play golf with Spain alone poised to attract a large percentage of these golf travellers in the years ahead, according to the National Golf Federation.

But it's not just the Costas, so traditionally associated with tourism and lesure, that are benefiting from the boost of the recent PGA European Tour; demand for golf property in other prime Spanish locations is also increasing according to the builder. Enquiries for second homes in Mallorca have almost doubled in the first quarter of 2014 in comparison to the same period last year.
