Ikea rethinking ikeahackers threat?

IKEA may be rethinking its stance on IKEAHackers.net after sending the site a Cease and Desist letter. The Swedish furniture giant issued the unofficial site, which details how to use flatpack furniture in unintended ways to create new objects, with a legal threat for violating its trademakr. IKEA reportedly said that the site would have to remove its ads or Change its domain.

Now, though, a wave of bad press and negative reactions may have caused the company to Change its mind. Jules Yap, owner of IKEAHackers.net, said that he had received another message from the firm asking "to dialogue with me to find a new way forward".

"What does that mean?" he wrote. "I don’t know yet. But I am hopeful, though my guard is still up."

He added: "It could not have happened without your support. Every email, twit, comment and message that you have sent in support of IKEAhackers has led to this moment for us – that it is possible for fans to cause a ginormous corporation to rethink its actions. THANK YOU!"
