Turkey will ‘weather the storm’
The credit crunch will not have an impact on Tourism in
Murat Dedeman, head of the Turkish Tourism Investors Association, commented: ‘"Holidays have become a necessity for people and external financial matters will not stop people treating themselves’
He made the comments after predicting a 12 per cent increase in the number of people visiting Turkey this year, despite global economic problems such as the impact of the credit crunch.
Mr Dederman added: "Concerns over a worldwide recession have affected consumer confidence and spending habits but the Turkish holiday industry will weather the storm. Tourism is the sector which will be affected last by a recession".
The comments are likely to be reassuring to those with a vested interest in international tourism, such as rental investors who own property in popular holiday destinations.
This follows similar comments from Ian Bradley of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, who recently stated that: “People are not being put off booking a trip overseas, despite the gloomy economic forecasts.
