Auckland's market on the up

Sales activity has picked up in Auckland's property market, suggesting that life is starting to come back into the New Zealand property sector...

New figures compiled by Barfoot and Thompson shows a 65 per cent increase in sales in March, compared with February.

Speaking to 3 News Jean Smith of Barfoot and Thompson said, "Vendors are definitely listening and putting their houses on realistically priced and if they do that we can actually get them a sale."

Smith says the sudden surge in sales is due to a combination of lower interest rates, pent up demand and a weaker Kiwi dollar that's assisting new immigrants get onto the property ladder.

The increased demand for residential stock in New Zealand could soon see property prices rise again - only time will tell.
