Mumbai's world one to boast longest elevator ride
How many miles does it take you to get home? Does that include the ride in the elevator? A new piece of research by the Wall Street Journal investigates just how much distance is covered in a lift in the world's tallest towers.
The infographic - pictured below - ranks the towers in order of journey length and finds that Mumbai's World One tower will boast the longest elevator ride in the world upon completion in 2016.
The tallest purely residential building on the planet, its towering height of no less than 1,450 feet will leave those living on the very top floor travelling 200 miles a year in the elevator alone. If that return trip (up and down) were done twice a day, that would increase to 400 miles a year, "slightly longer than the drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco".
In Manhattan's 432 Park Avenue block, on the other hand, residents at the peak of the 1,397-foot building would clock up around 356 elevator miles in their vertical commute to the ground.
