Expats to be paid more to compensate for pollution
Expats will be paid more by Panasonic to compensate for air pollution.
The measure, thought to be a first, follows severe pollution in London this month as dust from the Sahara desert blew into the city. Air pollution warnings have recently been issued in cities as clean as Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam too.
In China, meanwhile, pollution is a well-known issue, with officials in Beijing erecting a giant video screen to display the sunset, which cannot always be seen due to smog.
Now, though, Japanese electronics firm Panasonic has said that it will pay expat workers in China a "premium for expats to compensate for a difficult and sometimes harsh living environment", reports Expat Forum.
