Canada raises $300m for brazilian farmland

Canada's largest alternative asset manager, Brookfield Asset Management, has raised a $300m fund for investing in Brazilian farmland. The money, which is hoped to reach $500m, will be used to buy cattle ranches in Suoth America, which will then be converted into sugarcane or soybean farms.

Canada is not the only international investor interested in Brazil's farms, though: demand from China has encouraged the expansion of Brazil's soybean farms to the tune of 11 million additional hectares in the past nine years.
