2.01-carat diamond found at arkansas park

A man found a 2.01-carat yellow diamond in an Arkansas park this week.

The "Crater of Diamonds" State Park in Murfreesboro has a search field that spans 37.5 acres, which allows people to search for gems on the eroded surface of an ancient diamond-bearing deposit.

When Dean Filppula, an offshore steward from Louisiana, heard that the field had been plowed just before his visit to the area, and that some significant rainfall followed, he headed to the park to see if the diamond-bearing soil had been loosened enough to unearth a gem.

Sure enough, he found the diamond on Tuesday, which is roughly the size of a pea. He named it the Merf Diamond, after his mother's initials, and now plans to sell it.
