Have all the diamonds been discovered? Perhaps, says De Beers, which notes that despite £7 billion being invested into hunting for diamonds over the last 14 years, no major finds have taken place.

Asian demand, though, continues to climb for the stones, with expanding middle classes in China and Indian now accounting for 20 per cent of purchases, which De Beers forecasts will climb to 28 per cent in 2016.
