Emaar Properties has unveiled plans to construct the world's tallest twin towers in Dubai. The emirate's largest developer will build the towers in Dubai Creek Harbour as part of a project that will be triple the size of its Downtown development.
The towers will stretch 600 metres high, making them approximately twice as tall as The Shard, which is currently Europe's tallest. There is no confirmed start date for the towers themselves, though: they will be added to the development (which will include a total of 39,000 homes and 22 hotels) at a later date.
When planning a project like this, you can’t look at 2015. It’s about the fundamentals of the city,” Emaar Chairman Mohamed Alabbar told the press at a conference on the site.
"The story of Dubai and the history of the creek are intertwined, it really tells us where it came from and which way we’re going," he added. "This is the greatest spot in the world and it deserves something creative and special."
