Auckland enjoys strong start to 2014

New figures from Barfoot & Thompson show that the average hosue price for the area reached $647,207 in January, while the median price reached $580,000.

While the prices are slightly lower than those recorded at the end of last year, activity is strong, with new listings up 4.1 per cent in January year-on-year and demand high for the luxury property market. Indeed, almost 100 homes worth more than $1 million were sold, which is "exceptionally high" for this time of year.

"All the indications are that the market is building to being extremely active during the first quarter of the year," says Managing Director Peter Thompson. "January’s sales numbers at 854 are the highest in a January for six years."
