Bulgaria’s black sea ‘ban’

The Bulgarian Government is taking steps to tackle ‘monstrous’ overdevelopment…

It is to introduce restrictions of the number of hotels that could be built on a certain territory in the Black Sea coastal resorts, according to a new tourism development strategy, presented on Tuesday.

The strategy, prepared for the period 2008-2013, was presented by the chairwoman of the State Tourism Agency Aneliya Krushkova.

"The monstrous over-construction causes the destroying of nature and over-supply, which, on the other side, will lead to the bankruptcy of many hotels," Krushkova explained.

The strategy provides also for updating of the hotels' categorization in every three years.

The strategy will be presented before the centrist party's parliamentary commission later in the day. Aneliya Krushkova said she will rely on their support for implementing the changes planned
