Over half of older brits keen to move

A new survey by thinktank Demos reveals that 58 per cent of elderly Brits want to move, with one in four interested in retirement property, but with only 106,000 purpose-built retirement homes and an emphasis placed on building to support first-time buyers, older people are increasingly being shut out of the housing market.

Indeed, a report from the Office for National Statistics fomds that a quarter of retired households in England and Wales are renting their home to raise the necessary funds. Indeed, recent years have also seen a rise in the number of pensioners seeking to boost their incomes through equity release products or looking overseas.

One gated retirement resort in Lazarote is already fully booked for the winter season. Sun Park Living is a self-sufficient English-speaking community, which offers self-service and self-catering accommodation with bills included in monthly payments.

"Today's over 50s are seeking greater value for money, to enjoy the warm weather we have here in Lanzarote every day, in a simple dream retirement property purposely built for their needs, housing stock which is somewhat lacking in the UK," comments Gil Summers, Co- Founder of the development.
