Direct services to the Greek island were launched from Manchester Airport earlier this week by low-cost carrier easyJet. This means that people who are based in the north-west of England will be able to access affordable and frequent services to the tourist hotspot.

As a result, holiday accommodation on the island will be likely to see greater demand this summer. Furthermore, prospective second home buyers may be more inclined to consider Crete as a possible destination.

David Osborne, UK general manager at the airline, commented: "Mancunians can now take advantage of easyJet's famously low fares to the summer hotspots across Europe, with the care and convenience when flying from your local airport."
