Lesson of the day: never promise to build your children a castle

Lavender promised his three-year-old son, Jason, that he would be him “a home where we could both live and create some nice memories”, he explains in a video (spotted by Curbed). It sounds sweet, until he adds that the property he promised to build was a castle. And so, he learned first-hand that you should never promise your children a castle - because you will actually have to build it.

Years later, he finally finished the property on Lake George, complete with stained glass windows and suits of armour. The property was rented out by Mr. Lavender and his wife for weddings - and honeymoons- at a rate of $955 per night. Now, though, they have listed the entire property for sale.

The price for a three year old son’s dream castle? $14.8 million.
