Overseas property news - Jared leto buys former military compound

Jared leto buys former military compound

Jared Leto is best known for his work with California band Thirty Seconds to Mars, as well as his acting in movie Requiem for a Dream, TV show My So-Called Life and, of course, Dallas Buyers Club, which earned him an Oscar last year.

Leto, then, is a busy man. Not too busy, though, to buy up the odd military compound. The bizarre property in question, located in L.A.'s Laurel Canyon, was first built in the 1940s, when it was used to make military films, from training videos to documents of atomic bomb test research.

In 1994, it was bought up by artist Mark Lipscomb and former judge John Ladner, reports Variety, before going on and off the market in many years since, with some rumours circulating that it might be converted into a high-end rehab facility.

Whether it's the military past or the creative links that attracted the budding filmmaker, Leto did not hesitate to stump up precisely $5 million for an off-market purchase of the estate, which covers approximately 1.7 acres with eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. The property also contains a spiral staircase and art galleries, not to mention a theatre space and a swimming pool outside.

Leto's other property is a 4,000-square-foot-plus house in the Hollywood Hills, which he has owned for almost a decade.
