Swiss property price rises
Fuelled by strong demand for luxury property in Switzerland, ski chalets on the Swiss Alpine have appreciated by up to 20 per cent over the past year, according to Savills...
The greatest demand is reportedly being recorded in the cantons of Valais and Vaud in the renowned ski resorts of Villars in Vaud and the Verbier and Four Valleys resorts in Valais.
Limited supply to overseas nationals, in accordance with the country's complex bureaucracy, with very few non-resident purchase permits issued each year, along with an inability to resale a home for at least five years, have been cited as the cause for the surge in prices.
Average Switzerland property prices tend to grow in-line with inflation - around 2.5 per cent. However, properties located in areas where it is easier for foreigners to buy property, which includes cantons like Villars and Chateau D'Oex, can often appreciate at a much faster rate of growth.
