Spike lee lists mansion for sale
Spike Lee has listed his mansion for sale.
The filmmaker’s historic home, located on East 63rd Street, is nkown as Hatch House and has a past even starrier than most Hollywood directors’ careers.
The 8,292 square-foot property used to be a stable but was promptly snapped up by William K. Vanderbilt in 1916 for $85,000, reports the NY Post. Over the years, the Spanish-style design has been owned by everyone from Broadway producer Charles B. Dillingham to aeronautical man Charles Lanier Lawrance, whose company merged with the Wright Brothers after World War I.
Burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee called the pad her own for several years until she passed away in 1970. It has since passed hands to artist Jasper Johns and, now, the director of Malcolm X. Lee purchased the mansion for $16.6 million in 1998. The asking price now? $32 million.
