Corinna walks open

A year after opening, Corinna Wilderness Experience on Tasmania's west Coast is surging ahead. Managers report occupancy rates have been strong and forward bookings indicate a bright future for the old mining town turned eco-wilderness experience...

The opening of three walks will add to the experience, says Ken Boundy, the head of the consortium that developed Corinna, on the Southern end of the Tarkine Wilderness, Australia's largest temperate rainforest.

The easiest of the walks is the Huon Pine trail, which is wheelchair accessible. It connects with the Savage River walk, a more demanding two-kilometre hike over a saddle of myrtle beech rainforest, but Boundy is most excited about the boarded bridgeway that leads to Lovers' Falls. He says it is particularly spectacular at night, when glow worms put on an impressive display, and he has plans to introduce dinners on the viewing platform during warmer weather.

Corinna delivers a four-star experience in four restored miners' cottages, 14 eco chalets, a hotel/restaurant, guesthouse and store.
