Dubai to expand airport to meet demand
Dubai is planning to expand its international airport capacity to meet demand. Dubai International Airport overtook London Heathrow to become the world's busiest airport in 2014, handling 70 million passengers. But there is a lack of floor space on the site for expansion, which means that Dubai authorities are turning to Dubai's second airport, Al Maktoum International, for expansion. The project, which will span six to eight years, will extend the site across an area the equivalent of almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island, boosting the capacity to 120 million passengers a year.
