Following our World Cup predictions, which forecast an overall victory for the USA, TheMoveChannel.com follows the FIFA tournament through every stage, highlighting a property Match of the Day.

Germany. Brazil. Two of the stronger housing markets in the world go head-to-head in today's #TMCWorldCup Semi-final.

As on the football pitch, it is possible for the property score to go either way.

Unlike many of the contenders the countries have brushed aside in the knockout tournament so far, they both have positive form in every single category: price growth (health), listings (openness to oveeseas investment), Google searches (international appeal) and, most important of all, enquiries on TheMoveChannel.com (demand).

As with most of the matches in the tournament, after a gruelling stalemate for 90 minutes, the result is determined in a tense property shootout...

Brazil nets the first two, with house price growth of 12.1 per cent in the 12 months to Q1 2014 (Knight Frank) and 5.7 per cent across six months. Both of those have proven unbeatable by any other team so far, as booming interest in Brazil and low supply has fuelled a surge in values.

Germany strikes back quickly, with 128 listings on TheMoveChannel.com comfortably passing Brazil's 74, followed by a swiftly dispatched 650 searches on Google. Together, they indicate how established the country has become among overseas investors, not just as a perceived safe haven but as a strong buy-to-let market.

With both teams even, the first #TMCWorldCup enters sudden death to decide the winner. Germany's 1.83 per cent share of enquiries on TheMoveChannel.con in 2013 has been strong enough to defeat many other property markets in the past. Against Brazil, though, it just is not enough: the South American country blocks Germany's effort and drills home its own 4.46 per cent share of enquiries. This is far below a dominant share, but it has been enough to see Brazil stay in the top five most popular countries on the site for most of the last 12 months; a position that leaves Germany looking enviously on from the sidelines as Brazil advances to the final, increasingly looking like the favourites to take home the trophy.
