The bi-annual housing scorecard from the Housing Industry Association reveals that the region is the strongest by a "healthy margin", ahead of the Northern Territory and New South Wales.
“The Australian Capital Territory took a tumble down the league table sliding from fourth to sixth," says Geordan Murray, HIA Economist. "Lower levels of activity in multi-unit segment drove the decline, although there were also emerging signs of weakness in the ACT’s detached house building market."
Queensland, on the other hand, is enjoying a building recovery, improving from its second-bottom place in the league table.
Whle WA and NSW have caught up with Victoria's historically high levels of new home building activity, though, activity in these states "no longer appears to be rising".
