Non-humble pie: anger-fuelled home in ex-husband’s garden for sale

The home was originally erected in 1925 in Seattle , Washington. The property, which spans just 830 square feet, measures a mere 4.5ft wide at its back, but expands out to 15ft at the front.

Why such a peculiar shape?

Because, according to legend, it was built to block out the light to the existing house on the plot of land and limit its access to neighbouring homes. The husband won the existing home in what was reputedly an ugly divorce. The wife, meanwhile, was awarded the front yard.

Its current owner, Lisa Horton, has another theory: that the original dispute was over the land itself. The original owner went back to Germany, allowing someone else to build a home on the land but requested that there be enough space left for him to build his own home at a late date – only for the new home to be bigger than anticipated.

“Out of spite, [the land owner] built that funny little pie-shaped home”, she told Quirksee (via The Daily Mail).

Whichever story is the truth, the unique home’s history and appearance is hoped to attract enough attention to find the right buyer: the pie-shaped property is now up for sale for $397,500.
