Mile-high skyscraper planned for tokyo

A mile-high skyscraper could be part of Tokyo's skyline in 2045, if ambitious new plans are approved.

The design, submitted by Kohn Pedersen Fox Assoc. and Leslie E. Robertson Assoc., would see the super-tall building constructed in Tokyo Bay in the coming decades. The 5,577-foot property would stretch far above the Japanese skyline, towering over twice the height of Dubai's Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world.

The tower would be part of a development called Next Tokyo, the plans for which include a strnig of man-made hexagonal islands designed to protect the capital city from flooding and house thousands of people, as well as a Hyperloop. Algae farms, wind farms and solar panels would help to power the whole project.
