The playboy mansion is for sale
The Playboy Mansion is up for sale, TMZ has reported. Arguably one of the most renowned buildings in US history, the 6-acre Holmby Hills estate was built in 1927, eventually becoming a notorious den of sex, booze and sex, as Hugh Hefner and his array of models hosted extravagant parties for the rich and famous.
All parties must come to an end, though, and now, it is time for the mansion to shut its doors - and open them again for the right buyer. The right buyer, for Playboy Enterprises, is someone who is willing to pay over $200 million for the estate, although agents have reportedly told them that this is unrealistic: the Los Angeles house is alleged a tear-down, due to its age and condition, which means that the land is the valuable part of the deal. Estimates say it could fetch around $60 million, although the mansion's history could boost the price as high as $90 million.
However, while sources tell the gossip site that the estate will be listed with a more realistic asking figure in the coming month, it will come with a very specific condition: Hefner is expected to request a life estate, not unlike France's viager system, which would mean Hefner would be able to live in the mansion until he dies. Viewings will not show prospective buyers his bedroom.
