Record number of students enrol in oz universities
A record number of students are now enrolled in Australia's universities, according to new figures. The data shows that the number of full and part time students Down Under now totals 1,373,230, up 4.5 per cent from the previous year - 0.7 per cent higher than the longer-term average annual growth of 3.8 per cent. Overseas students account for a quarter of the population, with the majority of the overall students located in either New South Wales, Victoria or Queensland.
The growth marks the second year of rising figures in a row, reversing two years of negative growth, a trend that has been encouraged by the weakening of the Australian dollar, as well as the simplicity of the student visa system.
